Holy Crepe!

This past Monday night (March 8th) I found myself in the friendly confines of Anita's Crepes on Leary Way. Not your standard Big n' Cheap haunt with most of their crepes posting double digit prices and bottles of wine which require a credit check, but there are deals definitly worth noting.

Truth - I don't know wine. Never have. When I was in college I used to buy Carlo Rossi by the jug and nourish myself on that for days at a time. Mr. Rossi's jugs graced the top of my cabinets like a ring of honor. A big, cheap ring of honor that would make a wino cry.

Regardless of my wine ignorance, I enjoy the feeling of empowerment which comes in selecting a wine. Having the wait staff bring me a bottle to sample before making a firm commitment on my purchase puts me in a category of - Yeah, I can pretend I know what I'm doing. Pretending I know what I'm doing is something I have experience with. When they set the $25 bottle on the table (actually $12.50 on this particular night) I put on my best Wino Face, swirled the wine in the glass, took a sip (well, OK, I took it more like a shot of liquor) and (in the end) give my approval.

Sitting at $12.50 for the wine, my friend and I then shared a savory and a sweet crepe. For savory we went with the Fromage Crepe and, for the sweet, we settled on the lemon selection. To the best of my memory, the two crepes (being the cheaper of the two on the menu) came to around $15.

The wine and crepes brings the total to just under $30 and, after washing everything down with coffee, just over $30. Like I said, not your standard Big n' Cheap... but even the Big n' Cheap need to treat themselves every now and then!

Anita's Crepes, I salute you.
